Joshua (Josh) Bruner is a results-driven Family Law Attorney serving clients in Bellingham, Whatcom County, and Skagit County. Known for his strategic thinking, calm but assertive presence, and deep empathy, Josh is committed to guiding individuals through difficult family law matters with clarity and confidence. From Construction to Courtrooms – A Unique Legal Journey
Josh's path to law is anything but traditional. After over a decade running his own construction company and serving in the U.S. Army, his passion for advocacy and justice led him to a new calling. He earned a political science degree from Idaho State University, joined the Army ROTC, and was later commissioned as a Field Artillery officer. His military career included a combat deployment to Afghanistan, where leadership, discipline, and service shaped his approach to law.
Josh was selected for the prestigious Army Funded Legal Education Program, enabling him to attend the University of Washington School of Law, where his focus on advocacy and courtroom experience began to flourish.
Recognized for Advocacy and Legal Excellence
At UW Law, Josh excelled in mock trial competitions and served on the Moot Court Honor Board. He earned the MacGillivray Scholarship for Excellence in Advocacy and worked with prosecutors, trial judges, and even a Washington Supreme Court Justice, gaining practical legal insight that continues to serve his clients today.
Following law school, Josh served as a Legal Assistance Attorney at Fort Bragg, providing essential legal guidance to soldiers and their families.
Personal Experience Fuels Professional Passion
Josh is a divorced father of five boys, and his personal experience with a contentious, three-year legal battle for equal residential time gives him unique insight into the emotional and legal complexities clients face. He represented himself and succeeded in securing a favorable outcome — an experience that fuels his mission to help others navigate family law with strength and understanding.
